Family Vacation to the Creation Museum and the Ark

Updated: May 30, 2022

We just returned from the most educational family vacation EVER! The ministry of Answers in Genesis has produced two Bible themed attractions: the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter.

My favorite of the two attractions was the Creation Museum. The state of the art designed building is surrounded by creative gardens and a petting zoo. The huge amount of scripture, science, and history rolled into the many exhibits is outstanding. If you are person who is a lover of logical information, you will be in your element. I enjoyed the history woven throughout the science and Bible presentations. The seven C's: creation, corruption, catastrophe, confusion, Christ, cross, consummation, help you remember everything presented in order. The "extra" exhibits make the museum even more outstanding. Dr. Crawley's Insectorium, Buddy Davis' Dino Den and the Fearfully and Wonderfully Made exhibit, along with the History of the Bible exhibit will be remembered for a long time. We learned so much at the educational program presented by Dr. Jennifer Hall Rivera entitled "Male and Female: He Created Them". She used forensic antrhopology to show the difference in male and female just by the bones of the two genders. The free 4D theater shows the Last Adam program three times a day with its very clear gospel presentation. The Encounter 4D program is also very educational. The Creation Museum's catch phrase is "Prepare to believe", and if any person regardless of background goes into the museum with an open mind, willing to learn; they most likely will come out persuaded!

The Ark in Kentucky is true to the Biblical dimensions given to Noah. It is awe inspiring to understand that God asked one man and his family to save the world using this size boat. The initial wow factor for the ark is greater than for the Creation Museum because of the magnitude of the ship. It is the largest timber frame structure in the world. Although there is more artistic license and conjecture included in the Ark Encounter this is what makes it so appealing to many, especially to younger people. Ken Ham and his staff offer possible explanations as to how Noah's family took care of the animals, provided fresh water, and even fresh air (Can you imagine the aroma?) on board the craft for nearly a year. Another way the artistic license is seen is in naming Noah's female family members, but it does help them to seem more relatable. The added exhibits Searching for Truth with the gospel in comic book form and the Doors of the Bible were memorable. The gardens at the Ark will probably be expanded in the future, but they do not compare at all to the beauty and creativity of the ones at the Creation Museum.

Although we enjoyed all the animals, we didn't take advantage of the opportunity to ride a camel at the petting zoo.

The food offerings were varied and everything we tried was very good. Ezmara's kitchen is a buffet that provides quality food for your day and will provide the best bang for your buck.

Do you need more encouragement to make the visit? Then see the promo video here:

Both museums were extremely educational and enjoyable making them part of a landmark vacation. The zoo keeper chats, coffee, ice cream, playgrounds and many other features will cause you to want to go back again...

I have started planning my return trip:

-Take in all the 4D programs at the Creation Museum and the planetarium.

-Go to the virtual reality theater at the Ark Encounter...
