Home is where the heart is...

Updated: Dec 21, 2020

I have had many homes in the almost half a century that I have been on this earth. In fact my parents moved almost 30 times in their over 50 years of marriage. I have lived in a travel trailer, single wide trailer, double wide trailer, brick homes and homes with siding made of other materials. (Some of which had to be painted-back in the day!) I have siblings that have lived in other countries of the world but no matter where we live we can make it a home. A home is created with heart. If the heart is right, even though one may not know all the skills of homemaking or have an abundance of resources at its disposal, the home will be a happy place.

Sometimes I get so busy with what I want to get done at home that I forget about the people at home. I am trying to get them to help me with my project or projects (I look busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger) and forget that they have projects, need to rest, to talk or maybe just someone to listen.

How can we keep happy hearts in our homes?

Look beyond ourselves and ask the Lord to help us see what the real need is in each life that we touch that day. Keep the laughter going and the love showing. When I do unexpected acts of love for the people in my home, I am encouraging the attitude of love. Hide a note in their bedroom, lunch box or vehicle. Leave a favorite candy or treat. Maybe even harder is do the chore they dread. When they thank you just ask them to pass it on and keep the love going. Matthew 7:12 "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you: do ye even so to them:"
